Micah 1:5-6
KJV 5 For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem? 6Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof.
WEB 5 “All this is for the disobedience of Jacob,
and for the sins of the house of Israel.
What is the disobedience of Jacob?
          Isn’t it Samaria?
And what are the high places of Judah?
          Aren’t they Jerusalem?
6 Therefore I will make Samaria like a rubble heap of the field,
          like places for planting vineyards;
and I will pour down its stones into the valley,
and I will uncover its foundations.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

5 Israel had turned their hearts from God to idols, this started because they didn’t want to make the trip to Israel to the temple so they set up pagan temples so they could worship but by doing this they rejected the Lord. Judah wouldn’t fall until later because they would further serve the Lord but they would fall into false worship and be judged later as well.

6 For years the place was like this. They wouldn’t be in the land for years. God’s judgment will come in time the question is are we right with Him?

James 5:13-15
KJV 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
WEB 13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises. 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven..

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

13 We need to prayer, God wants to hear from us and we need to pour our grief and sorrow out to Him. When we are doing well, we should worship, this isn’t saying we don’t worship in hard times and isn’t saying that we don’t pray during good times but is saying that we pour it out to the Lord.

14-15 The sick should be prayed over, God can bring healing. Oil symbolized the Spirit. This was done in the belief God would heal them, this healing doesn’t work without faith.

Clark's Reflections / Micah 1:2-4

Micah 1:2-4
KJV 2 Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the LORD from his holy temple. 3 For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. 4 And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.
WEB 2 Hear, you peoples, all of you.
Listen, O earth, and all that is therein:
and let the Lord Yahweh be witness against you,
the Lord from his holy temple.
3 For, behold, Yahweh comes forth out of his place,
and will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.
4 The mountains melt under him,
          and the valleys split apart,
          like wax before the fire,
like waters that are poured down a steep place.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

2 We need to be open to both God’s word and to the Spirit’s call. We often aren’t willing to hear. The temple would be destroyed and is today but this could be a reference to the people that followed the Lord. God was never limited to the temple even though sometimes people saw Him as such. God’s throne was always in heaven.

3 This means that God is coming down from heaven and the high places refer to places of worship, so this verse means that God is going to handle the pagan worship places that shouldn’t have been.

4 This verse shows both that God has glory and power and is the Judge. He is the judge, are we ready, are we bringing people before His throne away from these other high places in the world, as Christians this is exactly what we are to do.

James 5:12
KJV12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
WEB 12 But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes,” and your “no,” “no”; so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.[2]

James is quoting Jesus almost word for word. Jesus said this on the sermon of the mount. To many times we make commitments or promises that we have no business making and that we cant keep, this is saying that we shouldn’t do that. Yes we should do what we say we do but we shouldn’t make promises about it. This culture was big on making oaths to God, they made big oaths out of pride but there were times they were broken, this dishonored God and the church and it is best just to avoid oaths so that they aren’t broken.

Micah 1:1
KJV 1 The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
WEB 1 The word of Yahweh that came to Micah the Morashtite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Micah was a prophet and he was called to be by God. It is important we live for the calling God has given us, not what we want, not what others want from us. These are the kings that reigned while he was used as a prophet from the Lord. This also tells what He prophesizes in brief. We have a role to serve for the Lord, our we serving Him?

Clark's Reflections / James 5:9-11

James 5:9-11
KJV 9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. 10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
WEB 9 Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door. 10 Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

9 We should not cause trouble for one another, back talk each but work together. God is to be our judge, while we shouldn’t accept a brother or sister turning to sin we are to walk the fine line of helping them and let God be the one who judges.

10 We will suffer as Christians, this world may hate us because of Him, and we may have them act in their hate. Living for Him and good turns people against us. We have to keep walking and stand strong in Him thru the faith we have.

11 Overcoming thru the Lord brings joy even in times of trials. Him being in control gives us a peace in the midst of chaos. We need to lean and rely and trust Him, submit to His leadership and even the world comes against us we are blessed by His presence, that is the joy he speaks and of and one that the believer can have.

Jonah 4:10-11
KJV 10 Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: 11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
WEB 10 Yahweh said, “You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night. 11 Shouldn’t I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can’t discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

10 Jonah had so much concern about this vine because it gave him comfort; he saw a purpose for it, even though he shouldn’t have been there but on his way back home. Some times we get mad with God for ruining our comfort and it’s because He wants us to move outside our comfort.

11 Jonah cared more about this vine then the people he just shared the message with. God lets Jonah know that He cares more that the people turned to Him then that this vine died. When we become comfortable our view points need to change. Sometimes God has to get our attention, He had to do this with Jonah.

James 5:7-8
KJV 7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 8Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
WEB 7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

7 The life has so much trouble; if we can’t overcome then we will be overtaken. We have to be able to be longsuffering otherwise we won’t be able to grow much for and be used for much by Him. We have to patiently wait on Him coming back but during the time we are to serve and proclaim Him. We have to understand that God is waiting for that last soul. If we want Jesus to return then we should be sharing Him with others like He asked us to.

8 We are to have faith that He will return, its easy over time to lose faith but we are to let the time only grow our faith in a loving Lord.

Jonah 4:8-9
KJV 8 And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. 9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
WEB 8 It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
9 God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?”
He said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

8 Jonah’s view of life was not good. Jonah thought he had it harder then Job did, this is pride thing that he had. God caused this to show and teach Jonah. God was loving Jonah and trying to break his pride. Jonah could have went back home at this point instead of staying in the heat but he wanted to see these people be destroyed even though he knew they repented and that God had showed mercy.

9 Jonah cared more about the vine then he did human lives. God showed he cared more about people souls.

James 5:4-6
KJV 4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. 5Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
JuliaSmith 4 Behold, the hire of laborers having reaped your farms, withheld by you, cries out, and the cries of the reapers have entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. 5 Ye have led a luxurious life upon the earth, and have rioted in luxury; ye have nourished your hearts, as in the day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned, ye have killed the just one; and he resists you not.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

4 This verse is talking of how they work their fields but don’t bring people to the gospel, they neglect God’s work even though they are doing theirs, they maybe mistreating those in the church who are in need of work by making them their laborers and over working them.

5 Luxury is often a big idol in the Christian life, we cant serve luxury and God, we follow one more then the other and often times God gets put second.

6 This verse is addressing the killing of Jesus.
